Protect the Right to Protest

The horrific knife attacks that took place at the end of April have been misrepresented and politicised by our government and the media to pave the way for further restrictions on our right to protest. A false narrative has been spun around the victims and the nature of the attacks. Please use the letter template in the dropdown below to contact your MP on this matter.

Letter to MP Template

Dear

On 29 April 2026, Essa Suleiman attacked three people in separate incidents on the same day. The CPS and police record that two Jewish men, Shlome Rand (34) and Moshe/Norman Shine (76), were stabbed in Golders Green, where the stabbings were declared a terrorist incident. A third victim, the Muslim man Ishmael Hussein, was attacked first, earlier that day in South London. The CPS has charged Suleiman with three counts of attempted murder and one count of possessing a bladed article.

The Prime Minister and the Home Secretary have repeatedly framed the case only as a terror attack on “two Jewish men” and an “antisemitic national security emergency,” while failing to name or centre Ishmael Hussein in their public statements. This is not a minor omission. It creates a racially and religiously biased hierarchy of victimhood, in which Jewish victims are elevated to the level of a national security crisis while the Muslim victim in the same case is treated as background detail.

Ministers have then used this selective framing to justify raising the national terrorism threat level to “severe,” announcing a £25 million fund specifically for Jewish-community security, and linking the case to wider moves against pro-Palestinian protest. The CPS, however, presents a legally neutral picture of three attempted murders by one individual, not a broader terror campaign.

THIS DIFFERENTIAL TREATMENT STRONGLY SUGGESTS RELIGIOUS BIAS AMOUNTING TO INSTITUTIONAL RACISM IN PUBLIC POLICY.

The Government and the Metropolitan Police first linked the attack on the two Jewish men to the 16 May Nakba‑Day march, with the head of counter‑terrorism saying police were “reviewing whether to ban pro‑Palestine marches” after the national terrorism threat level was raised to “severe” following the Golders Green stabbing, ignoring the Muslim attack entirely, and the psychiatric background of the individual involved.

I ask you to press the Government to:

1. Publicly name Ishmael Hussein as the first of the three victims in all future ministerial statements and correct the “two Jewish victims only” framing.

2. Confirm in writing that the attack on the Muslim victim will be treated as fully equivalent under hate-crime and counter-terrorism frameworks.

3. Issue a public apology to the Muslim community for the selective handling of this case.

4. Ensure security and policing measures are based on objective evidence, not politicised narrative.

5. Demonstrate how funding and public recognition are distributed according to documented need, not political prominence.

6. Ensure any implied reprimand affecting protests based on clear public bias is corrected before Muslims are vilified - otherwise there MUST BE RESIGNATIONS FOR MINISTERS AND POLICE ALIKE.

This is a matter not only of accuracy, but of equal treatment under public authority.

Please address this issue as a matter of urgency.

Yours,

Stop the Genocide

  • Israel's genocidal war campaign has now been running for over 2 years, killing over 72,000 people, including many women and children. Unicef estimates there are between 3,000 and 4,000 child amputees.
  • 90% of Gaza's population have been displaced - multiple times.
  • Israel has systematically targeted schools, hospitals, journalists and their families.
  • Israel's policy of obstructing aid from entering Gaza has created a man-made famine creating hunger and malnutrition that has particularly affected children.
  • Around 9,000 Palestinians are in Israeli detention, whilst more than 4,000 have been subjected to enforced disappearance. According to a UN report released on 20th March, 2026, Palestinians in custody 'have been subjected to exceptionally ruthless physical and psychological abuse'
  • As of the end of 2025, 351 children were detained in Israeli prisons, 51% held under 'administrative detention' without charge or trial. (Defence for Children International, Palestine)
  • On March 30th, 2026, Israeli law makers passed a new death penalty law that exclusively applies to Palestinians. Please see our Death Penalty Campaign Page for more information and action you can take.

Iran

Israel and the US are wreaking havoc across Iran with their indiscriminate bombing, including the destruction of schools and medical facilities. Palestinians know all too well the horror of being targeted in this way and the twisted hypocrisy of Western governments who speak about international law and human rights whilst trampling all over them.
